Bioinformatics postdoctoral position at the Coastal Biological Processes Group

25 Abril 2019

The Biological Littoral Processes Lab led by Esther Garcés is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (CSIC) in Barcelona, Spain. The postdoctoral researcher will work on a project funded by a Plan Nacional project COPAs (Understanding top-down control in coastal bloom-forming protist: opening the parasitic compartiment) that aims at identifying the diversity of phytoplankton parasites in marine coastal environments.

The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the in silico characterization of environmental samples, from water column to sediment. Among others, the candidate must be proficient in HTS data analysis (e.g. Illumina metabarcoding datasets), including scripting, programming, statistical analyses and applying common standard analysis tools and algorithms (vsearch, DADA2, R, python, Slurm, etc). Knowledge on phylogenetic analyses (e.g. Maximum Likelihood, Bayesian inference) is desired.

A PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field, good programming skills, and good writing skills are required. Experience with state-of-the-art approaches to analyse the molecular data generated in the ICM under an ecological point of view (diversity, community composition, taxonomic classification) is required. Previous postdoctoral experience will be considered.
